Every year 2Plus2 designs and produces a calendar around a theme featuring photographs taken by 2Plus2 staff. Design and production are coordinated by our Creative Director, Sally Dew. Our long-time, trusted colleague Stevens Printing prints the calendar and this year we used Stamps.com to produce a custom 20-year celebration stamp.
But how do we determine the content? We asked everybody on the team to submit “favorite” images and explored, pushed and prodded the concept of "social" for our 2016 theme. Along the way we kept bumping into the symbols, emojis and acronyms that are part of social media so the back of each month highlights fun facts about #, /, lol, tbt and whole lot more.
In January visit the Temple of Dendur at the Met and learn about #. The hashtag, octothorpe or pound sign, comes from the Latin abbreviation lb, short for libra pondo, or ‘pound weight.’ The hashtag as we know it dates back to July 2009, and early uses of the symbol centered around uniting niche communities and political organizing, like the Arab Spring protests. The very first hashtag on Twitter: “how do you feel about using # (pound) for groups.”
