RiSE Festival Elevates Hope, Ignites Dreams and Creates Moments You Will Never Forget

The image above is the first winning submission in our in-house "New Perspectives" photography competition. The image is from Jasmine when she attended the RiSE Festival at the Moapa River Indian Reservation this past October. At the festival, lanterns are prepared with a message or prayer and at sunset are released en masse, magically illuminating the dark sky. Also, the lanterns are 100% biodegradable, designed for short burn and flight time, so that after the event 100% of the lanterns are retrieved.  For more information and to sign up, visit the RiSE Festival site. Thanks, Jasmine, nice shot!

My Favorite App on "The 21 Hottest Female-Founded Startups to Watch in 2017"

While perusing this list of 2017's most exciting women-run companies, I found one of my favorites, Simple Habit, founded last year by Yunha Kim. Simple Habit is a personalized meditation app designed for busy people and I am a big fan. I've been using the app daily for the past three months and I love it because you can choose a meditation based on factors like how much time you have (5 min., 10 min., 20 min.), where you are (taking a walk or just got home) and how you are feeling (stressed or under the weather). Also, the app features dozens of teachers so if you don't like one teacher's style, you're not stuck, you can try someone else. So check it out and start meditating today. -- SD

UX Prototypes: Low Fidelity vs. High Fidelity

It's true. "You cannot afford to not test prototypes. Your design will be tested, whether you plan for it or not." Here's a great overview of when to use what level and type of prototype. A variation of the "paper prototype" that I've used quite effectively is the whiteboard. Then use one of my fav proactical apps OfficeLens to capture the image and print as needed. -- CD
