Deep inside Earth, scientists find weird blobs and mountains taller than Mount Everest

Hey campers, wrap your earthly brains around this... Researchers at the UC Berkeley are using seismic waves (yes, as in earthquake) to scan our planet’s innards, much like doctors use ultrasound to peer inside patients. And what they're finding is fascinating, not just a hunk of rock to be sure. We are living on an onion planet, likening the inner Earth to a series of overlapping, onion-like layers. "The ultimate goal is to connect all of Earth’s onion layers to the way our planet formed, which in turn will help explain how it became the life-friendly world it is today," says one of the researchers. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.
