Juneteenth Festival Celebrates Liberation for African Americans

Our Summer Intern Haile Wayne attended the Juneteenth Festival in the Fillmore district in San Francisco this past weekend. The festival acknowledges the holiday June 19th. The holiday celebrates the liberation of the slaves in the south that had not yet been freed under former President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation in 1865. The San Francisco festival included live performances, parades, job fair, fashion shows, film screenings and more. The feeling of community and positivity engulfed the festival site. Learn more about the history of Juneteenth.
