An Oakland-Based Graffiti Camp That’s Just For Girls

Girl Mobb is on a mission to correct the gender imbalance in the street art scene, here in Oakland as well as beyond. The artist, muralist, printmaker, and educator known as Girl Mobb is Nina Wright. Nina first started hosting her Graffiti Camp for Girls earlier this year and now her camp is in demand outside the Bay Area. The camp is for young women ages 12-17 and teaches how to properly use aerosol paints, take requisite safety precautions, and ultimately paint a mural. Go girls!

Alexandra Henry, the filmmaker, aims to bring the struggle of sexism in art to life with her first documentary. Interviews with more then twenty women artists offers rich perspectives on a traditionally male-dominated community. So much for the "Boys Club."
